3 Outcomes-First Design

The principle of outcomes-first design that  is emphasized at the course level with  respect to course and module objectives  applies equally at the program and  institutional levels with respect to program  and institutional outcomes.

The ability to collect meaningful outcomes on  authentic student work, to  analyze those outcomes, and to act on the results  they yield is the critical  assessment loop accreditors are looking for and expecting to see.

It begins with a strong foundation  (outcomes and curriculum development),  relies on concerted application (instructional  design), requires a sophisticated collection  process (Aqua), and drives evaluation and  continuous improvement (program and  course revision).

In addition to aligning course content,  activities, and assessments with course level objectives (COs and MOs), the CLT  team (IDs, ADs, ITMs) ensures that course  assignments align with high-level program  and institutional outcomes to foster an  ongoing spiral of continuous improvement.

Outcomes collection and assessment are  a high priority and of immense importance  to the University in meeting accreditation  requirements. The ability to collect  meaningful outcomes on authentic student  work, to analyze those outcomes, and to  act on the results they yield is the critical  assessment loop accreditors are looking for  and expecting to see.
